Read what?

The Bible! The Bible is the inspired word of God and the authority for what we believe and how we live our lives. It tells us who God is and what His promises are, and reading it is a surefire way of growing closer in your relationship with Him.

2 Timothy 3:16-17

"All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."

Hebrews 4:12-13

"For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart."

2 Peter 1:20-21

"Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation of things. For prophesy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit."

John 8:31-32

"To the Jews that had believed in him, Jesus said,'If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.'"

1 Timothy 4:16

"Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers."

Acts 17:10-12

"As soon as it was night, the believers sent Paul and Silas away to Berea. On arriving there, they went to the Jewish synagogue. Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. As a result, many of them believed, as did also a number of prominent Greek women and many Greek men."

John 12:48

"There is a judge for the one who rejects me and does not accept my words; the very words I have spoken will condemn them at the last day. For I did not speak on my own, but the Father who sent me commanded me to say all that I have spoken."

So why study the Bible at all? Why not live based off of one's traditions, feelings, wants, or needs? At the Church of Christ, we believe that all scripture in the Bible has come from God and that we can use it to learn how to be more righteous and better equipped to do every good deed. Jesus says, "If anyone hears my words but does not keep them, I do not judge that person. For I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world." It is a relationship built wholely off of a love that goes beyond our understanding of charity, morality, grace, and compassion.
